Ahava is a skin care house with one address, the Dead Sea, and its masks are where that address is most literal: one of them is made with the mud itself. Three pieces from the house make a complete ritual. A mud mask that rinses off, a hydrating mask that stays on, and a cream for morning and evening. Below is what each one holds, as Ahava sets it out, and the order in which they go on.

Why Ahava

Ahava builds its range around minerals from the Dead Sea, and it gives its own blend of them a name, Osmoter. That name appears on two of the three pieces here, and the Dead Sea itself is in the ingredients of the third. It is the reason to look at the house as a set rather than product by product: one mineral idea runs from the rinse-off mask to the daily cream, and only the texture changes around it.

The Mud Mask

The Time to Clear Purifying Mud Mask comes in a 100 ml tube with a flip cap. Its ingredient list opens with kaolin, a clay, then mineral spring water and Dead Sea mud, with Dead Sea water a little further down. Jojoba seed oil, aloe leaf extract and chamomile flower extract are on the list too. Ahava describes the Time to Clear range as being about skin that feels cleaner and more balanced after use.

It is a rinse-off step. Ahava asks for it to go on clean skin, to be left on, and then to be rinsed away thoroughly. A tube suits a mud: you press out what one evening needs and close the rest away.

The Hydrating Mask

The Hyaluronic Acid Leave-On Mask Hydrate is a 50 ml jar from the house's Hyaluronic Acid line. Ahava pairs its Osmoter minerals with hyaluronic acid in more than one molecular weight, and adds peptides. Hyaluronic acid is the ingredient skin care turns to for attracting and holding moisture, which is the whole brief of this mask: the evening when skin feels dry or tired.

This one does not rinse off. It goes on clean, dry skin and stays there, and Ahava's instruction is to follow it with your usual skincare. The house presents it as a weekly treatment rather than a daily one.

The Daily Cream

The Crystal Osmoter X6 Smoothing Cream is the step that happens every day. It is a gel-cream in a 50 ml jar with a gold-toned lid. Ahava describes X6 as six times its Osmoter blend, turned into a crystalline form without water and paired with jojoba oil. Date fruit extract, Acmella flower extract and Dead Sea algae extract are also on its list.

Ahava's instruction is clean skin, morning and evening, smoothed evenly over the face and the neck until it is absorbed. The neck is part of the step, not an afterthought, and it is the place most routines forget.

The Order on a Mask Evening

Ahava does not set the two masks out as a pair, and you do not need both on the same evening. If you do use both, the order follows from the instructions themselves: whatever rinses off goes first, whatever stays on goes second, and the cream closes the evening.

  1. Cleanse. Both masks ask for clean skin.
  2. Time to Clear Purifying Mud Mask on, left on, then rinsed thoroughly.
  3. Pat the face dry. The leave-on mask asks for skin that is clean and dry.
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Leave-On Mask Hydrate, left on.
  5. Crystal Osmoter X6 Smoothing Cream over the face and neck until absorbed.

Which Mask, When

Choose by what your skin is asking for that evening. When it feels it needs clearing, the Time to Clear mask is the one; when it feels dry or tired, the Hydrate mask is. Ahava gives the Hydrate mask a weekly rhythm. It gives no frequency for Time to Clear, so begin occasionally and let your skin set the pace. As with any new step, introduce one product at a time, so that if something does not suit you know which one it was.

What the Three Share

The Dead Sea is in each of them: as mud and water in the rinse-off mask, and as Osmoter in the leave-on mask and the cream. All three are listed as vegan. Two masks and one cream is a short shelf, and that is the point of it. A ritual you keep is worth more than a routine you abandon.
